This year, Teacher Appreciation Week is May 1st through the 5th. It’s the time of the year that teachers are showered with gifts, free or discounted food, and other perks. Students and their parents may choose to show their appreciation by writing a note and giving teachers a gift.

You won’t be surprised to find out that teachers end up getting lots of presents year after year. This leaves them with a plethora of mugs, decorated clipboards, and more. However, if you’re looking for a gift that your teacher will actually love, try one of these top 4 teacher appreciation gifts that won’t break the bank.

Candy Bars

Who doesn’t enjoy a candy bar? I know that at the end of a particularly long school day, I loved to sit back and enjoy a chocolate bar. It’s something that you know will be appreciated and won’t be wasted. To make the candy extra special, you can attach a pun-filled note to it. For example:

  • “You’re an EXTRA amazing teacher!” (Extra gum)
  • “It’s been a JOY being in your class!” (Almond Joy)
  • “You are o‘fish’ally the best!” (Swedish Fish)

You can find lots of other pun ideas on Pinterest to go with your teacher’s favorite candy. Or, place the candy in a decorated Mason jar, mug, or other cute container.

School Supplies

Teachers are always in need of school supplies. Help them out by gifting them school supplies for Teacher Appreciation Week. Attach a pun to the supplies to let your teacher know what they mean to you. Or, create a school supply cake or bouquet. Some of the school supplies that teachers especially enjoy receiving include:

  • Dry erase markers
  • Pencils
  • Disinfecting wipes
  • Teacher stamps
  • Stickers
  • Books
  • Highlighters
  • Teacher scissors
  • Lip balm, lotion, hand sanitizer, etc.

Plants

Spring is in the air. Already, students are getting spring fever and longing to spend time outdoors in the sunshine. A classroom plant probably won’t get students to settle down and pay attention, but it can brighten up your classroom in the meantime.

Find a potted flower, cactus, or other plant to give your teacher. Add a special note, or say something like “Thanks for helping me bloom this year!”

Gift Cards

When in doubt, purchase gift cards for your teacher. Teachers are overworked and underpaid. Many of them probably don’t spend a lot of money on clothes, a night out, or other things. Let them know you care with a gift card to some place that they will love, such as Target, Amazon, Coldstone, Starbucks, Redbox, etc. Just try to find out where the teacher enjoys going. Not every teacher chugs Starbucks’ beverages. I know that I’ve received countless gift cards to Starbucks and Sonic, but I always seem to use them all.

Talk to your student to find out what his or her teacher would enjoy receiving for Teacher Appreciation Week. Work together to find the perfect gift to show the teachers in your life just how much you appreciate all that they do.
